People are being urged to shop dog walkers who don’t clean up after their pets.
Gosport Borough Council is waging war against irresponsible dog owners who leave mess in parks and on pavements.
To highlight the issue, the council says it recently dished out a £75 fine to a man who let all four of his dogs foul the pavement – and then walked away. The man was caught by Streetscene officers in Common Barn Lane, Lee-on-the-Solent, after a tip-off from disgusted neighbours.
The council wants people to report incidents of repeated dog fouling to the Streetscene team. If people tell them when it is happening and what the dog looks like, uniformed officers will include the area on their patrols.
The council says people who fail to clean up dog mess are leaving children at risk of toxocariasis, a disease which is found in animal faeces.
Streetscene officers are on patrol in the town from 6am to 8pm every day of the week.
You can report regular dog fouling to the council by calling Streetscene on 08000 198 598. All calls are dealt with in confidence.
