Steer Clear Campaign

On the 1st October 2012 Hampshire Constabulary launched the Steer Clear Campaign to raise cyclist’s awareness of safety on the roads.

Below are several ways to ensure your safety whilst cycling:

  • Wear a helmet
  • Wear bright clothes in the day and reflective clothing or accessories at night
  • Make eye contact with drivers so you are sure they have seen you
  • Use appropriate hand signals when making a left or right turn

Cyclists can be fined £30 or reported to court for the following offences:

  • Cycling on the pavement
  • No lights on your bicycle
  • Not stopping at a red light or pedestrian crossing
  • Under the influence of drink or drugs
  • More than one person on a solo bicycle
  • Failing to stop for Police

The Gosport Safer Neighbourhood Teams are supporting the Steer Clear Campaign and will be taking action where appropriate.

Also, for a small charge of £2.50, your local Safer Neighbourhood Team will postcode your bicycle.  If interested please e-mail your name, address and telephone number to gosporteast@hampshire.pnn.police.uk and an Officer will be in contact.
