ELECTRIC BLANKET SAFETY
Fact Sheet
Sadly, Hampshire Trading Standards Service will no longer be conducting the electric blanket safety checks.
As there are no alternatives to this complete check, it is advisable to keep an eye on your blanket to ensure it is safe to use.
– REPLACE your blanket if you have been using it OR, it has been stored for more than 10 years (older blankets are unsafe – they deteriorate with age).
– DO NOT use your electric blanket if you have any known fault, e.g. it doesn’t heat up properly, the controller has come apart and is now taped up, parts on the controller are missing (the control knob), you have hot spots, you notice the heating elements wandering and touching each other, the blanket is worn, frayed or scorched, etc.
– NEVER use wet or damp – this is an electrical appliance.
– KEEP FLAT – use the ties to secure in place on the mattress.
– Follow the Manufacturer’s instructions on use of your blanket.
– Always treat with care and do not take risks – BUY A NEW ONE
We apologise for the disappointment that the cancellation of this service has caused.
