We’re pretty acquainted with social media at this point, and most times we don’t think twice about what we post. However once the information is out there, we can’t ever take it back.
Keep your privacy a priority by avoiding the following six types of posts:
- Anything that reveals your home or work address -‘Checking in’ at a location or using geotagging apps when sharing pictures can mean that you’re unintentionally revealing your address.
- Your holiday plans and pictures – Although you may want to tell others about your holiday whilst your away, the information can easily make you a target for burglars as they know you’re away.
- Private information that could lead to passport clues – Divulging seemingly innocuous bits of information can make you more vulnerable as online security questions aren’t the strongest, especially when they require information that could easily give away on Facebook without thinking twice (first car, first pet etc.).
- Baby pictures (naked) – Any photo of your child partially or completely naked, including bathtime could fall into the wrong hands.
- Work that isn’t Copyrighted – If you have made art/photography that you are particularly proud of and post it to Facebook someone else might be able to take the credit for all your hard work, instead of Facebook try Flickr for photographs as they generally offer more copyright protection.
