Police are hunting a man who tried to rob a fish and chip shop in Gosport.
The thief walked up to the counter at Sandy’s in San Diego Road brandishing what appeared to be a kitchen knife. He then demanded that the 50-year-old worker behind the counter give him some cash from the till.
The victim refused to hand over any money and shouted for another member of staff, who was at the back of the shop, to call the police immediately. The robber fled the shop empty-handed.
Police are looking for witnesses to the attempted robbery which happened at around 8.40pm on Friday 18 November 2011. The robber was last seen running away in the direction of Vadne Gardens.
Detective Constable Sandi Peet, who is investigating the incident, wants help from the public. She said: ‘This was a bold incident to have occurred in a busy fish and chip shop in a residential area and is considered a very unusual occurrence. We’d appeal for anyone who witnessed it, or can give us any information about the offender, to come forward as soon as possible.’
The suspect was described as white, around 6ft tall, and in his late teens. He had a lean build and wore a black hooded top, blue denim jeans, white trainers and black wool gloves. He had a scarf covering his face which had a red, blue and white square pattern on.
