Victim stabbed on path

A MAN was stabbed after refusing to hand his phone over to a pair of thugs.

Detectives in Gosport are appealing for witnesses after the attack on the cycle path near Toronto Road.

The 22-year-old victim,
from Gosport, was approached by two men who asked for his mobile phone.  He refused and was then stabbed with a knife.  It happened at 11.20pm on Monday. The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening.

Detective Constable David Sheppard said: ‘I would like to speak to anyone in the area at the time and who saw anyone acting suspiciously.  Assaults involving knives are rare in the Gosport area.  If you need to walk alone at night, stick to well-lit main roads to prevent the risk of being assaulted.’

A 17-year-old boy from Gosport has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He is being questioned by police.

Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
