On the 1st October 2012 Hampshire Constabulary launched the Steer Clear Campaign to raise cyclist’s awareness of safety on the roads.
Below are several ways to ensure your safety whilst cycling:
- Wear a helmet
- Wear bright clothes in the day and reflective clothing or accessories at night
- Make eye contact with drivers so you are sure they have seen you
- Use appropriate hand signals when making a left or right turn
Cyclists can be fined £30 or reported to court for the following offences:
- Cycling on the pavement
- No lights on your bicycle
- Not stopping at a red light or pedestrian crossing
- Under the influence of drink or drugs
- More than one person on a solo bicycle
- Failing to stop for Police
The Gosport Safer Neighbourhood Teams are supporting the Steer Clear Campaign and will be taking action where appropriate.
Also, for a small charge of £2.50, your local Safer Neighbourhood Team will postcode your bicycle. If interested please e-mail your name, address and telephone number to gosporteast@hampshire.pnn.police.uk and an Officer will be in contact.
