Cyclist charged with manslaughter

The cyclist arrested after an alleged dispute with a Gosport pensioner and his diabled wife is now accused of manslaughter.

Police had earlier charged 28-year-old Duncan Snellgrove, of Howe Road, Rowner, with causing grievous bodily harm to Fleet Air Army veteran Roy Galvin, 69, in Bury Road, Gosport, at 5.50pm on Sunday.

Tragically, Mr Galvin, of The Paddock, Gosport, died in Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, at 8.15am on Wednesday.

He had suffered severe injuries when his head struck the ground during an incident involving himself, wife Deborah, aged 60, who was in a wheelchair at the time and the cyclist.

Investigating officers had appealed for information after the man was seen to cycle off towards Stoke Road and were particularly keen to hear from a member of the public they believed might have taken photographs on a mobile phone.

A spokesman said: "A number of motorists who may have driven past at the time have also not yet contacted us."
