Police on the lookout for people using phones whilst driving

Police officers will be in unmarked cars around Hampshire looking out for people using their mobile phones while driving.

It comes as tougher penalties have been introduced today for drivers caught using phones at the wheel.

As of today, people face a £200 fine and six points on their licence – double the previous punishments.

Officers from Hampshire Constabulary will be out in locations across the county handing out the punishments to anyone seen using a phone.

Figures show since 2014 there have been 56 crashes linked with mobile phone use, resulting in 73 injuries and four people dead.
